Your Adventure Plans

Trail Riding Adventure Plans

Adventure plans are obviously important. Will it be a casual float trip in a raft, kayak or canoe, or a heart-pounding whitewater experience? Will it be a horseback trail ride, a pack trip, trail hiking, hunting or fishing, mountain biking, or a trek with llamas? Will your expedition be a winter-time trip, backcountry skiing or snowmobiling? Will you be rock climbing? Or, mountain climbing? Will your adventure plans include a stay at a guest ranch? Will the ranch stay be leisurely, or will it feature a genuine cattle drive?

Plans begin with deciding on the type of outdoor adventure you would like. Take time picking out the Idaho adventure best suited for you and your family or other companions. Adventure trips are all different. Choose one that is suited to the experience and physical capabilities of everyone in your party.

Next, you will need a time frame and dates for your adventure plans. Adventures can last a few hours or several days, depending on your choice. Make a determination about the length of your trip and how much you want to spend. Once decided, will you go it on your own, or will you be using an outfitter or guide? How will you choose your outfitter/guide?

Image Preview If you choose an adventure hosted and led by a licensed outfitter, Idaho is a good choice. Idaho was one of the first states in the West to license and bond guides and outfitters. Besides being licensed and bonded, these professionals are dedicated to conserving Idaho’s natural resources, must meet high standards for safety, must be highly committed to customer service, and they must be certified in first aid.

WATER ADVENTURES
There are more than 3,000 miles of whitewater rivers and more than 2,000 lakes and reservoirs from which to choose in Idaho. If you are considering adventure plans on water, you have some decisions to make.

Jet Boat Trips Jet boat excursions are aboard safe, comfortable and fast aluminum-hulled boats that are designed to climb and descend river rapids, while maneuvering around obstacles with amazing agility. These boats depart from Lewiston, Hells Canyon Dam, White Bird, Salmon and Riggins on trips ranging from one to three days.

Flat Water Trips Fishing and casual sightseeing trips are available on a number of flat water venues including Lake Pend Oreille, Lake Coeur d’Alene, Priest Lake, Henrys Lake/Island Park Reservoir, Palisades Reservoir, Dworshak Reservoir, Brownlee Reservoir, Cascade Reservoir, and Deadwood Reservoir.

Float Trips Float trips range from a half-day outing up to several days with overnight campsites and great camp food, and they can be either leisurely or a white-knuckle experience. These fun-filled adventure plans can be made through outfitters who offer trips on many Idaho rivers including the Salmon, St. Joe, Snake, Lochsa, Clearwater, Boise, Owyhee, Payette, Selway and other Idaho rivers.

LAND ADVENTURES
Idaho has more backcountry than any other state in the lower 48 states. Outfitters, guides and guest ranches featuring a big variety of land adventures can help you with assistance and advice.

Guest Ranches Guest ranches offer everything from the luxury of resort-like accommodations, to the plain housing on what is really a working ranch. You can experience a cattle drives on some ranches and most have gentle horses for short or overnight rides into the surrounding landscape. Good food? You can bet your riding britches!

Land Outfitters Other outfitters and guides offer trail rides, pack trips, llama treks, backpacking excursions, skiing the backcountry, and snowmobiling experiences. Still others feature rock or mountain climbing, upland bird or waterfowl hunting, and big game hunting, including trophy hunts. Archery, rifle and muzzleloader trips are available.

Fishing Guides Like fishing? Fish in a fisherman’s paradise for Idaho’s famous trout, steelhead, salmon, whitefish and even sturgeon, the largest fresh water fish in North America.
