Fly Fishing the Big Wood River near Ketchum, Idaho

A small but fiesty Big Wood Rainbow...

I'm an Idaho girl so I naturally love to fish, and I could tell lots of Idaho fly fishing stories!

The Big Wood is one of my favorite streams to fly fish because it's so accessible! You can drive to and park easily on several different holes.

Its a wonderful river for families because there's a great walking/biking trail that runs along side of it. I have children so my mom watches the kids and pushes them in the stroller on the trails while I fish. It's also the perfect river for very predictable hatches.

You can count on some great dry fly action most summer evenings. However, my favorite type of fishing is nymph fishing. I love fishing down deep and using a strike indicator because it's such a surprise when they hit!

The fishing is great year-round - just check the regulations because it does have closed areas periodically.

Tight lines!
